Shared libraries: working with colleagues

Build a shared home for a team's lessons, pathways and tutors.

Written by Kat Morgan

A shared library is a library that belongs to a group rather than to one person. It is the right home for the content a department builds together, a grade team's planning, or a set of tutors everyone should be able to reuse.

This is different from sharing a single lesson with a colleague. Sharing one item hands over that one item. A shared library is an ongoing shared space: anything put into it is available to the whole group, and it keeps working when someone is away or moves on.

Creating one

Open Shared Libraries in the sidebar and create a new library. Give it a name and, if it helps the people you are inviting, a short description.

Creating a new shared library

Anyone who teaches can create a shared library, and whoever creates it becomes its Manager. You will be taken straight into the new library so you can invite people.

Working inside it

A shared library behaves like your own: folders, search, filters, grid or list, and the same Create button. What differs is who can do what, which is set by each person's role. See managing who can see and edit a shared library.

Deleting a shared library

A Manager can delete a shared library once it is empty. If it still holds live content, empty it first, either by moving what you want to keep somewhere safe or by deleting it. Anything sitting in that library's trash will not stop you, and it is removed along with the library.
