Chatting to your Tutor is like having a direct WhatsApp line to the most knowledgable tutor around, but it's not just text you send them - oh no! In this guide we'll look at everything from transcription, to images, to the maths keyboard.
1. Navigate to https://beta.mindjoy.com/students
2. Click "New chat" on a tutor of your choice.
3. Click in the text box to start typing.
4. Click this button to send the message or hit return.
Tip: Need to write a message over more than one line? Hit shift + enter to get a new line in a chat message.
5. If you'd just rather talk then hit the microphone button and get talking! When you're done hit the red stop button.
6. After a slight pause the transcription of what you said will get added to the text box, ready to send to the tutor in the usual way.
7. If you'd rather listen to the tutor's responses rather than reading all that text then you should click on the speaker icon under any tutor response. Our amazing AI voices will then give you the run down of what was said.
8. Click the same button to stop the playback.
9. Click the "Aa" to bring up the editing toolbar, to give you much more control over your responses.
10. Click here.
11. Click the 'xn' button for inline maths, or the integral button for a larger expression.
12. Use the maths keyboard to enter any formula you want!
13. Click this button.
14. To add an image to the chat simple click the image button.
15. You can include text in the message to ask a question, or explain what you'd like the tutor to do about the image.
Chat threads
Your tutor conversations are organized into threads. Each thread is an independent conversation, so you can have separate discussions about different topics with the same tutor.
On desktop, the left sidebar shows your chat history with the tutor. Click any previous thread to return to that conversation, or click New chat to start a fresh one.
On mobile, tap the History button at the top of the chat to see your previous threads in a dialog.
Suggested follow-ups
After the tutor responds, you may see suggested follow-up prompts below the message. Click any suggestion to send it as your next message - this is a quick way to explore the topic further without typing.
Uploading files
You can share images and documents with your tutor. Click the paperclip icon to upload a file from your computer or phone, or drag and drop files directly into the chat area. See Uploading Files in Tutor Chat for details.
Message actions
Each tutor response has action buttons underneath it:
Copy — click the copy icon to copy the response text to your clipboard.
Thumbs up / Thumbs down — give feedback on the response. This helps improve the tutor over time.
Listen — click the speaker icon to hear the response read aloud.
Suggested prompts
When your tutor has suggested prompts enabled, you will see clickable suggestion chips in the chat. These help you get started or continue a conversation when you are not sure what to ask next. Click any suggestion to send it as your message.
