Going over a returned lesson with your agent

Go through a marked lesson with your agent and fix what cost you marks, one question at a time.

Written by Kat Morgan

When a marked lesson comes back, your agent can go through it with you. It picks out what cost you the most marks and helps you fix it yourself, one question at a time, so the feedback actually sticks.

Your agent appears only if your school has turned it on. If you cannot see Agent in the sidebar, ask your teacher.

Starting a review

There are two ways in.

  • From the lesson. A lesson that comes back with your marks opens behind a short summary that says Your work is back. Click Review with agent. If you dismissed the summary, Review with agent stays at the top of the lesson.

  • From any chat. Open Agent and ask something like "Can we go over my feedback on Forces and Newton's Laws?". If it is not clear which lesson you mean, your agent shows it as a card with Open lesson and checks it has the right one before starting.

Review with agent starts a fresh chat about that lesson. Your earlier reviews are still in your chat history. For what the summary and your marks look like, see Reviewing your marks and feedback in lessons.

How it starts

Your agent reads your answers and the feedback (you will see Read your answers and feedback in the chat), then gives you a short read of how it went:

  • What went well: something specific you got right.

  • What to work on: the idea that cost you the most marks, and how many questions it came up in.

  • Quick fix: only if there is one, such as an answer that stopped just short or a small slip.

Then it suggests where to start and asks what you would like to do. It does not open with your score.

When there are a few likely answers, your agent may show them as buttons in place of the message box. Tap one, choose Something else… to type your own, or Skip.

A review in the agent chat: What went well and What to work on, then a Question 2 card showing the question, the answer and 0 of 3 marks, and the agent asking the student to explain their reasoning

Working through a question

  • Before your agent talks about a question, it shows it as a card: the question as it looks in the lesson, your answer and your mark. Click the card's title (for example Question 2 · Balanced and unbalanced forces) to open the whole lesson beside the chat.

  • It asks you to talk it through how you got your answer first. Then it gives you one hint at a time, and you put the fix into your own words. Tapping a button or saying "I get it" does not count as fixing it.

  • The card leaves out your teacher's feedback. Your agent brings in the part that matters in its own words, and it will not just hand you the answer.

  • For a word problem, it may suggest a quick sketch, and it can draw a diagram for you if you would like one.

  • You can jump to any question at any point: "Can we do question 4 instead?"

It focuses on what matters most

A review is not a tour of every question. Your agent picks the one idea that cost you the most marks (two, if they are not related) plus one quick fix, and uses one question to stand for each. If the same mistake shows up elsewhere, it asks what you would now do there, so the fix carries over.

Wrapping up

Once you have worked through it, your agent asks what pattern you noticed and what you will do differently. Then it sums up under What we fixed and Your plan.

It always finishes by asking "Would you like some more practice questions on this?" Choose Yes, make me some and it makes you a short practice lesson on what you just fixed. See Making practice lessons with your agent. Choose No thanks and it points you to another returned lesson, or reminds you that you can come back any time.

Good to know

  • Reviews work on the Mindjoy website, in a typed chat. They are not available in Voice Mode or in the phone app yet.

  • Your agent can go over lessons made in the New editor. If it cannot read a lesson in the chat, it says so, and you can still open the lesson to see your marks and feedback.

  • If you think a mark is wrong, your agent asks you to show why and checks it properly. It will not agree just to keep the peace. If you do have a case, talk to your teacher.

  • It only looks at your own work.
