Using Voice Mode in the Student Agent

Written by Kat Morgan
Updated today

Voice Mode lets you have a spoken conversation with the Student Agent instead of typing. It uses real-time audio so you can speak naturally and hear the Agent respond.

Starting Voice Mode

Click the audio waves icon at the bottom right of the composer to activate Voice Mode. The screen switches to a fullscreen voice visualizer with an animated orb.

How it works

Once Voice Mode is active, you will see status messages below the orb:

  • Connecting... - Setting up the audio connection

  • Listening - The Agent is waiting for you to speak

  • Recording - You are speaking and the Agent is listening

  • Speaking - The Agent is responding to you

The animated orb responds to the audio - it pulses with your voice when you speak and with the Agent's voice when it responds.

Interacting during Voice Mode

You can interact with the orb directly:

  • Click while the Agent is speaking to interrupt it

  • Click while listening to start recording

  • Click while recording to stop

Everything you say and everything the Agent says appears as text messages in your chat, so you have a full transcript of the conversation.

Minimised and fullscreen views

Voice Mode starts in fullscreen with a large orb. You can minimise it to continue browsing the chat while the voice conversation continues. Click Expand to return to fullscreen.

Exiting Voice Mode

Click Exit Voice Mode at the bottom of the screen to return to the text composer. Your conversation continues where you left off.
