The Feedback type controls when students see their marks and feedback on auto-marked questions. The setting applies to the whole lesson and lives in the lesson settings menu.
Where to find it
Click the ... menu at the top right of your lesson. Scroll down past Preview/Share/Assign and you'll see Feedback type with three radio options.
The three modes
Instant β After every question. Students see their mark and feedback the moment they submit each question. Best for practice lessons where the feedback is the teaching tool.
On submission β When the student submits. Students answer all the questions without seeing marks, then see everything at once when they submit the lesson. Best for a check-for-understanding where you don't want students to back-correct as they go.
On return β When the educator returns the lesson. Students see no marks until you (the educator) actively release them via the classroom view. Best for assessments where you want to review the auto-marks first, adjust any that need it, then release everything to the class together.
Picking the right mode
A rough decision tree:
Practice or revision? Instant. Students need the feedback loop to learn.
Formative classwork? On submission. They get one shot per question but still see results before they leave the lesson.
Summative or graded? On return. You decide when results go out, after you've checked them.
What this doesn't change
The Feedback type only controls when students see marks. It doesn't change:
Whether questions auto-mark (they always do)
Whether you can manually remark or override marks
Whether students can resubmit (that's a separate setting)
What you, the educator, can see in your classroom view (you see everything in real time, regardless of the mode)
Changing it after assigning
You can change the Feedback type at any point. If you flip from On return to Instant, students who've already submitted will see their marks immediately on their next visit to the lesson.
Returning a lesson manually (On return mode)
If you set On return, students see "Awaiting feedback" on their submission. Open the classroom view, click into the lesson, review the auto-marks, adjust anything you want to override, then click Return to release the marks to all students at once.
