How to Draft Lessons Ready for Pathways

Prepare lessons at your own pace in the Lessons library, then add them to pathways or assign them when ready

One of the most common requests from educators is the ability to prepare lessons ahead of time and push them out when ready. With the Lessons library, you can do exactly that - create lessons at your own pace, refine them, then add them to pathways or assign them to classrooms whenever you choose.

The workflow

Your Lessons library is your workspace. Lessons you create there are private to you until you decide to share, assign, or add them to a pathway. Nothing reaches students until you take that step.

1. Create lessons in your library - Click Lessons in the sidebar, then + Create. Build your lesson with text blocks, questions, reflections, and other content. There is no time pressure - save and come back as often as you like.

The Create button on the Lessons page

2. Build and refine your content - Add blocks, write questions, set mark allocations, and preview your lesson. It stays in your library and is only visible to you (and anyone you explicitly share it with).

3. When ready, choose how to use it:

  • Add to a pathway - Click Add to pathway on the lesson card to slot it into an existing sequence

  • Assign directly - Click Assign to push it straight to a classroom as standalone homework, a quiz, or revision material

  • Keep it for later - Leave it in your library. Students will not see it until you assign or add it to something

Tips for preparing lessons in advance

  • Batch-create at the start of term - Build all your lessons for a module upfront, then add them to a pathway in the right order when you are ready to release the sequence

  • Share with colleagues for review - Use the Share button to give a colleague Editor or Viewer access before it goes to students

  • Duplicate and adapt - Duplicate an existing lesson and tweak it rather than starting from scratch

  • Use AI to get a head start - Create a lesson with the Educator Agent to generate a first draft, then edit the blocks to match your teaching style

Adding prepared lessons to a pathway

When your lessons are ready and you want to organise them into a sequence:

1. Open the pathway you want to add them to (or create a new one from Pathways in the sidebar).

2. Click Add existing lesson in the pathway editor.

3. Browse your library, select the lessons you want, and confirm.

The lessons now appear in the pathway and can be dragged to reorder. Any changes you make to a lesson will be reflected everywhere it appears.

Assigning a prepared lesson directly

If a lesson does not belong in a pathway - for example, a pop quiz or a revision sheet:

1. Go to your Lessons library.

2. Click Assign on the lesson card.

3. Select the classroom and set a due date if needed.

Students will see the lesson on their home page immediately.
