Changing the title of a block in a Legacy editor lesson

Change block titles for clarity; manually or auto-generate for better student understanding.

Legacy editor only. This article describes the Legacy editor, where each block has its own title. The New editor uses a document-style page format with headings instead of block titles, so the steps below don't apply to lessons built in the New editor.

Each block added to a Legacy editor lesson has a default title based on the content you've added to it. You might want to give the block a more meaningful title for your students to better identify what's being covered. In this guide we'll take a look at how to change the title manually, or generate one automatically.

1. Find your way to the Pathway of your choice.

2. Click on the lesson that you'd like to change the block titles in.

3. Click on the "โ‹ฎ" button next to any block, and select "Edit block title".

4. Type out your new title and click "Save".

5. Alternatively, if you'd like it done automatically, click on the "โ‹ฎ" button next to any block, and select "Regenerate title".

6. You'll get a new title based on the summary of the content in that block.

What about the New editor?

The New editor doesn't have per-block titles. You structure a lesson with page titles in the left sidebar and headings within the page. See The page outline and navigating long lessons for more on structuring a lesson in the New editor.
