If you are an organisation admin, Insights shows how Mindjoy is being used across your whole organisation: how many students and educators are active, which classes are busiest, and how far each educator has got with setting up. This article covers how to get there, what every number on the overview means, and how to dig into one class or one educator.
Getting there
Click Insights in the sidebar, just below Inbox. It opens on the overview.
Only organisation admins see Insights. If it is missing from your sidebar, you are not an admin of the organisation you are in. Ask whoever manages your organisation's Mindjoy account to make you one.
If you belong to more than one organisation, Insights shows the one you are currently in. Switch using the organisation name at the bottom of the sidebar.
Choosing the dates
Every Insights page has a date picker in the top right. It starts on Last 3 months. Click it to choose another range:
Days: Yesterday, Today, Last 7 days, Last 28 days.
Months: Last 3 months, Last 6 months.
Years: Last year, Last 2 years.
Quarters: Q1 to Q4 of the current year.
Or pick your own start and end dates on the calendar and click Apply. Handy for comparing one term with the last.
Your dates stay set as you click through the Insights pages. Each percentage change compares your range with a period of the same length immediately before it. Charts group the data by hour, day, week or month depending on how long a range you pick.
A few things ignore the date picker on purpose:
The Educator Onboarding funnel and each educator's Journey to First Impact checklist always show all-time progress.
The second number on Active Students and Active Educators (the "out of" figure) is everyone with an account today.
The Students count on classroom tables is the number enrolled right now.
What counts as "active"
Insights counts someone as active if they did something on Mindjoy during the dates you picked. Not every click counts:
Students are active when they chat with a tutor, start a lesson or submit a completed lesson.
Educators and admins are active when they create a classroom, lesson, pathway or tutor, assign a lesson, pathway or tutor, add content from your LMS, or chat with the Agent or a tutor.
Logging in, browsing and reading do not count. Deactivated accounts are left out.
The overview page
Organization is the headline row:
Active Students: students active in your date range, out of every student with an account in your organisation.
Active Educators: the same for educators and admins.
Active Classrooms: classes with at least one counted action tied to them, such as an assignment or a student working on one.
Each card shows the change from the previous period, so you can see which way things are heading.
Student Overview holds the Student Activity chart. The orange line is Active Students over time and the blue line is Students Onboarded (new student accounts). Above the chart, Peak Daily Active Students is your busiest single day, Avg. Daily Active Students is the daily average and Change from last period is the trend. Download CSV exports the chart's numbers for your own reports. The two buttons below it, Which classes cause the most activity? and Which educators cause the most activity?, jump straight to the classroom and educator pages.
Educator Overview shows the Educator Onboarding funnel: how many educators have reached each of the eight setup steps, from signing up to seeing insights from their students' work. A big drop between two bars tells you where to aim your next training session. Every step is explained in View Usage Insights for an Educator.
Classroom Overview lists your five busiest classes. Switch to Lowest Activity to see the five quietest instead, or click Download CSV for the full list.
Drilling into a classroom or an educator
Click Classroom Insights next to Classroom Overview to see every class in a sortable, searchable table. Click any class to open its own page, with its enrolment, current average, active students over time, how many answers were marked automatically and how many questions students asked its tutors.
Every column and number on those pages is explained in View Class Activity Insights Dashboard.
Click Educator Insights next to Educator Overview for the onboarding funnel and a table of every educator. Click a name to see that educator's setup checklist, classes and activity. See View Usage Insights for an Educator.
For one class or one lesson
Insights is the organisation-wide view. For the day-to-day picture of a single class, open the classroom and use its Insights tab. For one lesson or pathway, see Reviewing Lesson Insights and Viewing Pathway Insights.
Tips
Before a staff training session, open Educator Insights and filter to Onboarding to see who has not finished setting up.
Halfway through term, switch the classroom table to Lowest Activity to find classes that could use a nudge.
Set the dates to a single term and use Download CSV to drop the numbers straight into an end-of-term report.
