How LTI works on Mindjoy

A quick primer on how LTI 1.3 works with Mindjoy

LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability) lets you connect Mindjoy directly to your Learning Management System - Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, Brightspace, or any platform that supports LTI 1.3.

Instead of managing Mindjoy separately, your students and educators access everything through the LMS they already use every day. That means:

  • No extra logins - users sign in through the LMS and land straight in Mindjoy

  • Content lives where students expect it - embed tutors and pathways right inside your course modules, alongside your other materials

  • Less admin work - student accounts and classroom enrolment are handled automatically when they launch an activity

If your institution already uses an LMS to organise courses and deliver content, LTI is an an easy way to bring Mindjoy into that workflow.

Launch Flow

When a user clicks an LTI link in your LMS:

1. The LMS sends the user's identity to Mindjoy

2. Mindjoy matches or creates a user account based on the email address

3. The user is signed in and redirected to the appropriate content

Educators land on educator views; students land on student views.

Account Linking

If you already have a Mindjoy account with the same email address:

1. You'll see a "check your email" page

2. Mindjoy sends a verification email to confirm it's really you

3. Click the link in the email and confirm the connection

4. Once linked, future LTI launches will sign you into your existing account automatically

If no matching account exists, a new one is created automatically using your name and email from the LMS.

Deep Linking

Deep linking allows educators to select specific Mindjoy content to embed in the LMS.

When an educator adds Mindjoy content to a course:

1. They're redirected to Mindjoy to select a classroom, then a tutor or pathway

2. The selected content is automatically assigned to that classroom (if not already assigned)

3. A link is created in the LMS that points to this specific assignment

Automatic Student Enrolment

When a student launches a deep-linked resource:

  • If they're not already enrolled in the linked classroom, they're automatically enrolled

  • This only happens for students, not educators

  • The classroom must belong to the same organization as the LTI registration
