Changing the Tutor Model

Guide to easily modify AI tutor model for personalized tutoring.

Written by Coach L

This guide provides a straightforward process for modifying the AI tutor model, allowing you to further customise their tutoring experience.

1. Navigate to My tutors and select the tutor which you'd like to modify

2. Once you're in the tutor interface click on the "Settings" button

3. Scroll all the way to the bottom of page and click "Advanced settings"

4. Click on the drop-down in the AI Model option

Advanced settings expanded, showing the AI Model dropdown

5. Select whichever model you prefer the AI Tutor to be based on

The AI Model dropdown listing Automatic (default), GPT 5.6 Terra, Gemini 3.1 Pro and Claude Sonnet 5, with GPT 5.1 and Claude Sonnet 4.5 marked Deprecated

6. The final step is to click "Save Changes"

Which models you can choose

The AI Model dropdown offers these options:

  • Automatic (default). Recommended. Your tutor follows whichever model we currently consider the best all-round choice, so you get improvements without having to change anything.

  • GPT 5.6 Terra

  • Gemini 3.1 Pro

  • Claude Sonnet 5

If you have no strong preference, leave the tutor on Automatic.

Deprecated models

Older models appear at the bottom of the list with a Deprecated tag, currently GPT 5.1 and Claude Sonnet 4.5. They stay selectable so that tutors already using them keep behaving the way you expect, and nothing changes underneath you.

For a new tutor, pick a current model or leave it on Automatic. If one of your existing tutors is on a deprecated model and you are happy with how it behaves, there is no need to change it.

The models offered for the Educator Agent and Student Agent are chosen separately, so the list you see there is not the same as this one.
