Removing a student takes them out of one classroom. Their account stays active and they keep their place in any other class.
Removing them
Open the classroom, go to the Students tab, click the three dots at the end of the student's row and choose Remove from classroom.
To disable the account entirely rather than just this class, use Archive account in the same menu, or see Archive a Student account.
