The new lesson experience is built for most lessons going forward. If you've got a specific lesson that fits the legacy block-based layout better, you can convert a new-experience lesson into a legacy one.
How to convert
Open the lesson.
Click the
...menu at the top right.Choose Convert to V1.
Confirm in the dialog.
The conversion runs. You're sent to a fresh legacy lesson that mirrors the content of your original.
What gets carried across
Most things translate cleanly:
Text, headings and lists become Text blocks
Multiple Choice, Select All Correct, Free Response, Long Answer, Match and Resequence questions map to their legacy equivalents
YouTube videos convert to legacy Video blocks
Images convert to Image blocks
A few things don't translate:
Callouts become regular text paragraphs with the header inline.
Tables become Markdown tables inside Text blocks.
Maths blocks are preserved as LaTeX.
If something doesn't survive the conversion the way you expected, edit the legacy version directly to fix it.
The original isn't deleted
This is important: your original lesson is untouched. Switching creates a brand new legacy lesson alongside it. If you decide you preferred the new experience, the original is still there, exactly as you left it. You can keep both, delete one, or assign whichever fits.
Why we built this
We don't want anyone stuck. If a lesson you've spent hours on doesn't feel right in the new experience, having a one-click path back to the legacy version means you can keep moving without re-authoring from scratch.
Most lessons stay in the new experience. If yours doesn't, that's fine.
