Create a Lesson from Scratch

Learn how to create a new lesson

Written by Kat Morgan

Two editors, one workflow. When you create a new lesson, you'll see a format picker with two options: New editor (Early Access, recommended for most lessons) and Legacy editor. Pick New editor for the document-style page editor. Pick Legacy editor for the classic block-by-block layout. See The New Lesson Editor for the new flow. The steps below cover the Legacy editor.

1. From the Pathway you're working on, click "Add New Lesson".

2. Click "Start from scratch"

3. Pick the lesson format. The New editor option opens the page-based editor. The Legacy editor option (used for the rest of these steps) opens the block-based editor.

4. Click "Next"

5. Click the "Lesson Name" field, and give it a sensible name.

6. Now it's time to select the tutor that you'd like to work alongside the lesson. Click "No tutor" option to change your tutor, or leave it as it is if you'd like to go tutor-less.

7. Select the tutor you'd like to use.

8. Click "Create Lesson"

9. Click "Add block" to start building.

Creating a standalone lesson from scratch

Lessons can also be created from the Lessons library (click Lessons in the sidebar, then + Create). A lesson created this way lives in your library as a standalone lesson. You can assign it directly to a classroom or add it to a pathway at any time.
