Inserting content with the slash and plus menus

Two ways to drop questions, media and activities into a lesson. Same options, slightly different muscle memory.

Written by Kat Morgan

The new lesson experience gives you two ways to insert anything that isn't plain text. Both pull from the same catalogue of blocks.

The slash menu

Type / on an empty line. A menu opens with every block grouped by type.

The slash menu open showing AI, Question blocks and Basic blocks

Keep typing to filter. /mc jumps to Multiple Choice. /yt finds YouTube. /call brings up the Callout group.

Slash menu filtered by typing letters to narrow the options

Arrow keys move through the list, Enter inserts the highlighted option, Escape closes the menu.

The slash menu is the fastest way to work if your hands are already on the keyboard.

The plus menu

Hover over the left margin of any block and a + button appears. Click it to open the same menu in a clickable form, with previews for each block type.

Same options as the slash menu. Use this one when you'd rather scan than type.

What you can insert

  • Text formatting: headings (H1 to H4), divider, code block, page break

  • Media: image, YouTube video, table

  • Questions: Multiple Choice, Select All Correct, True / False, Match, Resequence, Free Response, Long Answer, Reflection

  • Callouts: Callout, Example, Key term, Tip, Warning, Note

  • AI: inline AI composer

For step-by-step on individual block types, see the other articles in this section.
