This article covers the Legacy editor. Lessons built in the New editor work differently. To write maths in the New editor, see Writing maths in a lesson. New to the difference between the two? Start with The new lesson experience.

Our editors all have access to a built-in mathematics keyboard, allowing you to add mathematics notation with ease.

1. Make sure to start by putting the text editing cursor where you'd like your mathematics expression to go.

2. Click the x² button in the toolbar

3. Click inside the [ ] square and you'll be presented with the mathematics keyboard, you can use this to enter any mathematics expression. You can also type directly in Latex.
